The beginning of an amazing biography....

As promised, I have written a post completely dedicated to all that is Jamie Herring. In it I will explain the magic and awesomeness that surrounds her life, and will include many of my favorite Jamie Herring Stories.

Jamie is my best friend of 7 years and college roommate. Nana, as I like to call her, has the organizational skills, cleanliness and old fashioned outlook on life, as that of a Nana. However, she also possesses the personality and off the charts fun level of a 16 year old ex-Mormon. It's quite a combination. Some small things that Jamie Herring does, that will tell you a little bit more about her, are as follows. Almost every time she rides shotgun in my car, she feels the need to reach over and honk my horn, mostly at pedestrians. It's very rare that she honks at another vehicle. She's very anti J-walking. You'd think that the walkers would be upset, but most of the time, it just frightens them and they run away. Nana also yells at me when I leave cabinets open in the kitchen, or I don't clean up my messes. I was excited for college; moving out of my house, doin' my own thing... Little did I know I moved out of my mother’s house and into my grandmother’s house, and she is twice as strict.

The other night, after driving back from a birthday dinner for our friend Lauren, our conversation turned to space and its vastness, scariness, and overall wonder. Jamie proceeded to ask me a few question about space, including: 'Why is there only one sun in the galaxy?', 'Why are all the other stars so close together, while we're so far away?', and (my personal favorite), 'Why are aliens so much smarter than us?' To which i replied:

"Jamie, how do you know aliens are smarter than us?"

"Because they've made contact."

"with you personally?"

Now let me clarify; Jamie is not dumb. On the contrary, she gets better grades then I do. But she has this amazing gift, to say everything that comes to her mind at the exact moment she thinks it. It's maybe her best quality. Now this provides immense entertainment for me, with her amazing questions, but she also doesn't hold back when it comes to rudeness from strangers, or a chance to tell someone how stupid they are; example:

On our first trip the JMU we took a tour with a group of fellow high school students wanting to know what the dukes had to offer. We walked to the on campus movie theater that shows newly released to DVD movies, not to mention some sneak previews of movies that are out in the theaters. The best part about it? It's crazy cheap. So when we walked up, our tour guide asked the group, "How much do you guys pay for movies back home?" Jamie, wanting to participate, shouted out, "$7.25." Our leader looked towards Jamie and snipped, "Well that's nothing. Back home I pay $9.00." Jamie, with no hesitation fired back, "Well fine! I'm not answering any more of your questions!!" There was silence, for an awkward second. It was one of my favorite moments of all time.

Okay, maybe just one more. On a trip for Jamie's birthday, we went down to Virginia Beach to enjoy some sun and sand. While there, with clear blue skies and the sun blaring overhead, we laid on the beach and relaxed. After a second of silence Jamie turned to me and asked, “Hmm, is it cloudy of sunny?” I paused, and looked from her face to the incredibly hot sun above us. “Really Jam?” I replied. “You’re asking me if it’s cloudy or sunny?”

Yes Jamie is one in a million.
